CHURCHILL/SOUTH HILLS AT A GLANCE

Living in Churchill/South Hills

In Southwest Eugene you’ve got the Churchill neighborhood and the West Eugene Community Organization, their territory sprawling west from City View St., south to the hilly borders of Eugene itself, the east out to Green Hill Rd. and as far north at 1st Ave.

Most of this area feeds into Churchill High School. Cyclists come burning down out of the hilly roads that lead to the City of Loraine and opportunities for breezy evenings in wine country. Hikers head into these southwest hills and access the Ridgeline Trail at the Wild Iris Ridge Trailhead. From there travel across the southern hills for 12 miles, looking down on many of Eugene’s southern neighborhoods.

There are large commercial corridors on parts of 18th Ave. and certainly on W. 11th, which itself heads straight out to Mapleton, Florence, the sand dunes, coastal lakes, and of course the ocean. All just 60 minutes away!

Most of the Churchill area centers around Churchill High School, which is one of the three schools in Eugene to host an International High School. While all the high schools in Eugene with their advanced placement classes prepare students for the SATs, the International High Schools – located at South, Sheldon, and Churchill – feature a more broad international curriculum, preparing students for examinations called the International Baccalaureate.
